Marcus Stewart CLFOJ released

Marcus Stewart will play his last game for Sunderland against Stoke on Sunday.
The 17-goal striker has been told that he will not get his contract renewed at the Stadium of Light.
Stewart, who signed for the Black Cats three seasons ago, will leave on good terms after a heart-to-heart with manager Mick McCarthy this week.
McCarthy confirmed: "Marcus is going. He came and asked me and I spoke to him. It was a difficult decision but it's all very amicable; he's comfortable with it and looking forward to a fresh challenge.
"He's been terrific for the club and has had a brilliant season. He went through a goal drought but was still our best player by a mile. His movement and work-rate is phenomenal."
Stewart, 32, is unlikely to have any trouble finding a new club after an impressive season with the Black Cats.
His Sunderland career has been transformed under McCarthy after a hugely disappointing first year at the club, a time the striker describes as "the worst of my career".
But he emerged as an important player last season as Sunderland finished third before losing in the play-offs. The former Ipswich man, however, has left his best until last, playing a key role in the Black Cats' promotion.
"Marcus is one I inherited and he was disenchanted when I came here," said McCarthy. "But I gave him the chance and he's taken it.
"We've had run-ins during the last two years, that's normal, but they have always been sorted out quickly.
"It was a difficult decision to make but Marcus does not want the sympathy vote. The last thing he wants is to be here and not playing.
"It's the best decision for him. He can move on and get football on a regular basis."

McCarthy goes up further in my estimation.

Absolutely the correct decision for both the club and the player.

He leaves with my heartiest wishes and good luck.

In the premier league you can't afford to carry has beens.

And just when I was getting to know him .... does this mean that Bobby Orton will also leave Coxhoe ... might not be a bad idea after all!

I'm sad to see him go as he's had a great season and his vital goals have ensured us promotion but I think it's the right decision looking ahead to next season AS LONG AS MM signs a suitable replacement.
On the +ve side it might end all the FOMxxx etc from Jimmy!

Jimmy, you've knwn Bobby all your life. If he left who else would we watch belting bike wheel spokes out with a hammer.

Tell you what, far more entertaining than watching Marcus Stewart
