They know nowt what they print

Mrs Gilligan just came in from work and gave me the Northern Echo and guess what guys Scott Wilson's report on the England game gave Peter Crouch Man of the Match - yes bloody hell MAN OF THE MATCH!.

Actual quote is " You either love or hate him, but Englands beanpole striker should go to the World Cup Finals for novelty value alone. He asks different questions to any other striker at Sven Goran Eriksson's disposal"

I thought you were slected for the World Cup on your performance throughout the year not your novelty value.

Have I got it wrong guys did Crouch perform okay, what were the punters saying on the box? OR was I spot on in my first posting that he was crap and should not get a start again for England?

Jim, it's all about opinions. Watching the game on telly you do tend to see it differently from being there.

My own view is that Crouch, in the scale of things was not that bad. He did what he was put in there to do and to be fair to him he did it quite well. Win the headers, put the flicks on and unsettle the Austrian defenders. He's no Niall Quinn when it comes to footwork, but he did hold the ball up quite well.

Crouch's big problem is he is just not fashionable at present. He's struggling to score goals at Liverpool and looks a bit gangly.( understatement)Lest we forget it was the press who were clamouring for his inclusion when at Soton so they can't have it all ways but they usually do.

The main culprit is not Crouch but Erikkson. Do England really need to play a system that employs the long ball? Man for man I thought this country at this time has the most talented players worldwide? We probably have but what we don't have is a manager who is neither charismatic nor a risk taker. Erikkson is the man we should all be asking questions of. Crouch played to his strengths with 2 mobile wide men giving him service would do a good job in any team.

Would you like to mark him?

Joe Cole was all bluster and no substance as usual. he's great against the darren Williams of this world but against real players he's clueless.
