Match report

Nobody seems to be volunteering a match report so I guess it’s down to me! Well I thought we played really well and were very unfortunate not to get all 3 points, we really should have won comfortably. Overall it was a battling and accomplished performance and the only problem was that we were not sharp enough in the box. Andy Gray missed a sitter in the first half, a free header from inside the 6 yard box, and later in the game we dominated West Ham for long periods but couldn’t score a second goal which would have clinched it. Unfortunately we paid the price and ended up with a draw. That’s what we’re finding different in the Premiership, we’re just not quite able to kill off games. Overall a very pleasing performance which augurs well for the future, but a disappointing result. Thats four points we've dropped in two home games but I guess the Boro victory made up for it.

My other game of the weekend was Ferryhill U12’s vs Stokesley in the TJFA cup. This was a tough one for the Ferrhillers. Stokesley won Div 1 last season and are currently top whereas we won Div 4 last season. Both teams had therefore won their respective leagues last season but were 3 divisions apart. The game kicked off at 10:30 and by 10:32 we were one down due to poor defending from a corner - a soft goal against the League champions! The Stokesley supporters were quite smug (smug smoggies) and must have thought they were going to waltz it. Anyway we quickly put this behind us and dominated the rest of the first half but couldn’t score so it was 1-0 to Stokesley at half time. Both teams started the second half strongly and within 2 minutes Stokesley had scored again! This time it was a well worked goal and things looked bleak but the Ferryhill lads got going again and soon won a free kick on the edge of the box. Up stepped Reece Wooley to hit a screamer straight into the top corner - ‘game on’. Loads more Ferryhill attacks then Reece went on a run which started in his own half and ended up with him scoring another cracker from the edge of the box, it hit one post, rolled along the line and in off the other! By this time Stokesley were punch drunk and hanging on for extra time but Ferryhill were not to be denied and scored again with 3 minutes to go from a well worked move finished off by Matthew Harker, smallest player on the pitch, but not before Reece was denied his hat-trick as he thumped another free kick from well outside the box onto the bar. Overall a great battling performance which sent cup favourites Stokesley tumbling out of the cup at the first hurdle and Ferryhill onto the next round. Well done lads.

Well done to the kids. Nowt like sending the Smug smoggies back to their misty lands misty eyed.

was wondering when the match report was going to land on the board. Listened to the 2nd half on the way to Chimp Choker land last night and heard the final whistle go sat in ASDA's carpark. Sounded to me much like you say Billy, Have not got that killer streak in us, unlike the chimp chokers.

Reason for the visit was to Limehouse Lizzy at the Town Hall Theatre. Jimmy, if you haven't seen them, make the effort. Not to be missed Thin Lizzy tribute band. Excellent.

Billy,
From both match reports it came over to me as though you enjoyed the kids game better than the SAFC game?
Thanks for the reports I was not being lazy but the drink and the pain killers kicked in Saturday night and worse for that on Sunday.

Huyton what's the score on the place in the Pool are the Thin Lizzy band on every weekend or was it a one off night. Let me have more details on the place and any bands on there.

No problem Jimmy, I know you do your bit more than anyone to keep the blog site updated, I was hoping that perhaps someone else might have made a contribution. C'mon Coxhoe bloggers, letsbeeeavingyooooo - it sometimes seems like it's only Jim, Huyton and myself who do the main postings. Whinge over!
Yes, the kids game was very enjoyable as they demonstrated how to kill off a game - if only Sunderland could do the same. Saturday was an excellent performance but a poor result - worrying though that we can't finish off the job and win. Thats 4 points dropped in the last 2 homegames - we'll surely regret this at the end of the season.

I thought we battered them in the 1st 20 minutes of the 2nd half. There was nobody there to finish the game off and we were subsequently punished. After reading the players ratings in the People, Sunday Sun and News of the World I begin to wonder whether or not these people actually watch the games. Elliott 4/10 in two papers, I thought we was excellent on Saturday and he wore his heart on his sleeve - never gave the West Ham defence any breathing space.

My man of the match was Caldwell, closely followed by Elliott. Nyron had Etherington in his pocket yet Etherington gets 8/10?? Cockney papers strike again
