MIDFIELDER MAESTRO AND ENGLAND CAPTAIN BECKHAM SIGNS FOR THE BLACK CATS
Sunderland AFC today completed the pre-contract signing of experienced midfielder and England captain David Beckham. The London-born England international captain has signed a pre-contract agreement from Real Madrid starting season 2005/2006, dependent upon the Black Cats promotion to the Premiership. The fee will remain confidential between both clubs but the majority of the investment has been from club chairman Bob Murray.
A delighted Black Cats boss and Championship Manager of the month for March Mick McCarthy said: “David will be a terrific addition to our squad and will start down the right midfield during the pre-season friendly in Chicago, possibly switching to a more favoured central midfield role during the 2005/2006 campaign.
He's an alternative to what we've got at present, and over next seasons games that type of player could be important. We'll thrive on the kind of service he can give us and we're well aware of the problems he can cause teams particularly from set pieces."
He is expected to replace the outgoing Jeff Whitley who is in talks with Leeds United with regard to a permanent move in the summer.

Beckham brings a wealth of experience to the Stadium of Light after a 14-year career, which has brought 98 league and cup goals from 431 appearances, and has seen him command the highest regard within the game for his flair, vision and free-kick ability.
The 30-year-old began his career with Manchester United on 8th July 1991 and, had a brief spell with Preston North End before returning to Manchester United, after a further six years at the Old Trafford Ground, he fell foul of the regime of Sir Alex Ferguson, he signed for Real Madrid for an undisclosed fee in July 2003 before signing the pre-contract agreement with the Black Cats in April 2005 again for an un-disclosed fee.
Commenting on the news Sven Goran Eriksson has admitted that he is not bothered about where David Beckham plies his trade next season. Beckham is less of a worry and Eriksson will not even become stressed when his captain moves to the Black Cats in the summer. "No, with Beckham it doesn't matter at all for me," stated the Swede. "As long as he plays in a big team, he could have played for Chelsea or, what I saw in the papers, Arsenal or Tottenham; it doesn't matter now that we know where he will play next season. Sunderland is a big club with big ambition and with the huge following of supporters in the North East I am sure Beckham will bring continued success to both England and Sunderland.”

Previous comment removed by the Huyton Hoofer, based upon the gullibility of some of the numpties in our ranks. The language for an April Fools Day went beyond what would have been acceptable on the terraces of Roker Park, if someone had suggested that Bob Murray had stuck his hand in his pocket to buy a packet of Midget Gems, let alone DB.
Ah! mean hey who on this earth could be fooled by that statement just look at the text and read,- He would be replacin Jeff Whitley(thats the giveaway)-NO One could replace our dynamic midfielder -well not one of Becks calibre anyway lol.
