Sign of the times

It was once a magical day - the day of the 3rd round of the FA Cup but now it's the week-end of the 3rd round. Looking at the fixtures we are playing Sunday cos the Scum are playing at home as well today and the Northunbrian Police stated they could not police the two games - we lost the toss and were made to play on Sunday. Look at the fixtures today and what stands out are the two Sheffield sides playing at home today in the 3rd round ... now if the South Yorkshire police can manage that and still pick up all those speeding motorists then surely the police up here could have done the same.
Anyway another sign of the times is the lack of interest from the branch only 4 adults, 4 kids going, so pick up at the Red Lion by the Sedgefield Branch - thanks Clive we owe you one. If we win perhaps we may change our normal pick up to the Red Lion - going back to our old roots may change our luck. Did I say "if we win" bloody hell another sign of the times.

Good observations Jim. Northumbria Police is one of the biggest, with 4,000 plus oficers and they can't manage 2 piddlin "little" games on seperate days. Now if it had been striking miners...............

And, aye the magic of the cup. Killed by television. When we were kids it was a day to look forward to. Never mind the opposition, big or small supporters turned out in numbers. Not anymore. FA Cup, League Cup, Texaco Cup. No one cares anymore, especially not at Sunderland.

Even more telling for me is even if they went all the way I still wouldn't be looking to go. I'll support Sunderland in the long run by not throwing good money after bad and reinforcing the delusional beliefs that some people hold that the current incumbents are doing a good job in the circumstances.

Theyre not. It's people like David Hodgson, Paul Simpson, Martin Scott who do good jobs with little money.

I can't agree more Huyton.

Television has killed this beatiful game known as football. Not only T.V but clubs paying loads of money to players who are only intereseted in that.. only make more money.
How can you explain me that a doctor that can save lives doesnt earn as well as some players?!?!

I'm fed up with the situation! That's why i've not renewed my season ticket to see Velez this championship.I'd rather stay at home, watch the game at home on a SATURDAY NIGHT, drinling a beer along with a pizza and that's it.. To cut a long story short, spend my money and time in a better way. I dont want to be a slave of TV anylonger, scheduling games at their convenience..

I'm going to 2 cup games today. This morning it's Ferryhill U12's vs Whinney Banks in the 2nd round of the TJFA Cup and this afternoon Sunderland vs Northwich in FAC3.

Wonder which game will be the most enjoyable and which teams will be in the hat for the next round?

Update later!
