Nights Like This.

To borrow the song title from Paul Rodgers Album "Now" Nights Like This, don't come along very often but when they do they are pretty special. I've just got off the phone to Jim and Billy and boy do they sound happy. Makes me wish I hadn't been such a pessimistic bastard , such a negative twat and had had the courage to go this season. Listening to Jim and Billy took me back to the 1998 / 1999 season and the night at Bury when we finally won promotion to the Premiership after the heartbreak of the Play Off final in 1998. What a night that was, a ground taken over by SAFC, the Sky TV coverage , 4 goals from SKP and the conga.

It's been quite a difficult day really, I had some pangs of regret as I made my home at 2:45pm and almost called in the club to see the lads off. I was secretly hoping someone wouldn't turn up and there would be a spare, cos I'd have gone like a shot. make no mistake. Instead I made the tea for Linda coming in from work, (Chicken Pasta) then took myself off out for a walk, binocs in Hand (JIM) and went in search of that elusive Green Woodpecker that is often heard "yaffling" away down the Mill but rarely seen. Never heard him tonight.
Strolled up through Coxhoe Wood and give some kid a flea in his ear about riding a motorbike in a nature reserve. He was about 10. Informed him that a £1000 fine would be coming his way if ever I caught him again, and that he should give some consideration to the rock orchids that grow in the area of special scientific interest on the limestone escarpment. Of course he denied all knowledge of the wood being a nature reserve and give me some cock and bull about his mate from Durham telling him it was ok to ride in the wood, and I almost bought it until he told me to fuck off and sped off in the direction of Kelloe. You've got to hand it to the Kelloe lads. Still as resourceful as ever.

I armed myself with a bag of wine gums and a bag of Sports Mixtures and settled down to watch Liverpool / Juventus in silence on the telly whilst listening to Metro's commentary of the match. My how that Crabtree gets carried away. It's a good job Lord Rowell is by his side to keep him in his seat. I don't know how he doesn't take off. The Pool played well and to beat Juve 2-1 is no mean feat. Pity they conceded that away goal. I just have a sneaky feeling about the Pool this year.

Well my excitement has died down a little now and just needed to write this blog for the lads coming back. If you follow the link I've posted (Click the title "Nights Like This") there are some images of the game tonight.

So I'm going to blog off right now and dream of Wigan dropping two points on Saturday and us winning promotion at Ipswich on the 17th. I tell you what bloggers if we can go through the remainder of our games winning and end up with 99 points then that is some achievement given the piss poor start to the season. Considering the lack of resources that McCarthy has been faced with he has done a tremendous job and even I may have to revise my view of him.

But then the Premier league is to come, and we'll really see what he's made of.

Onwards and upwards.

Brilliant posting Jack. I've just got in but am absolutely drained and any posting will have to wait till later. All I can say is that it was an awesome team effort and reminiscent of the 'good old days'. A lot still to do next season but this is a special achievment by this team and makes you proud to be a Sunderland supporter.
I'm off to bed now before Jimmy does a posting and I have to reply!

I've heard that woodpecker banging away at the tree but always thought it was Huyton and Lady Huyton doing their bit for naturists, the increase in population and child care benefits. Just shows how my mind works!!

Your goodself being a perverterist and not a naturist would give you greater understanding of the natural world. It is the Greater and Lesser Spotted variety of the genus Dendrocopos which make the "banging noise" as you so succinctly put it. Picus Viridid on the other hand makes little noise, though still lives in a hole.

Now then if it came to the genus Biggus Dickus and Little Dickus whch category would you fall into?

Be very careful with your answer>
I know girls who know you.
