Championes, championes!!

The Ferryhill U11's trounced Greatham to deservedly win the League by 4 points and in the process score more than 100 goals and have the Leagues leading scorer with 41 goals. What a day!
Final placings were

Ferryhill 45 points
Brotton 41 points
Northallerton 40 points
Greatham 39 points

so we won the League by a clear margin.

All week I've been very nervous and had a sleepless night last night. I was 15 minutes late getting to the game as I had to go in to work this morning. However I needn't have worried, by the time I got there we were 3-0 up and playing strongly. Our top scorer Vinny need 3 goals to be top scorer in the League and he got his hat-trick plus winning 7-0 took us to 103 goals scored in 18 games. We were all very proud of the kids as this is the first time a Ferryhill team has ever won the League. At the end of the game the coach Keith had got 5 bottles of 'champagne' to spray the team with. He said it was £2 a bottle (2l) from Asda so nothing but the best for our team. They really loved it and some of the kids were guzzling from the bottles afterwards. I felt a bit sorry for the Greatham kids, some of whom were crying, but it's a competitive game even at this age and I'm pleased we won. Greatham have been top since the start of the season but we've always had games in hand and when we've played all our fixtures we've caught them up. It's been really great seeing the young 'uns develop as individuals and as a team and by the end of the season they were playing really well.
Two championships in one season - can't be bad.

Had enough to drink last Sunday to more than make us for this one so I'm going teetotal this weekend.

Tremendous news. Chuffed to bits for the kids.

Sorry I couldn't be there, but a spot of DIY had me busy all weekend.

Class always comes through.

The team play in the Teesside Junior Football Alliance. The website is at www.tjfa.co.uk. I've copied some of it below.

"Formed in 1974 and rapidly expanding year on year, this League is one of the biggest in the UK with 417 competing teams. Matches are generally played on Sundays, beginning in September and ending in May.

The League caters for players between the ages of 7 years and 18 years who compete in clearly defined Under 8 to Under 18 age groups.

This season there are 43 Divisions and over 8,000 junior players are Registered with the League."

Ferryhill have teams in most age groups. The U11's play in Divison 4. The website has information on results, fixtures, league tables, leading scorers etc and is very informative. The site is usually updated on a Tuesday. When the weekend's results are updated you'll see that Ferryhill have won Div 4 and we've also have the leading goalscorer (Gash) with 41 goals. I'd be interested in your feedback Walter. Do you have similar leagues in Argentina?

Definetely Brain!! Teams taking part in the top flight have all "youth teams"; here we call them simply inferiores, in spain they call it canteras or in Italy these teams are usually named "spring team".
There are youth teams belonging both to the Argentine Football Association but there are amateur sides as well: the latter ones are usually located in regions all over the country.
Here is a link of a club that is a well-known when it comes to youth football in the province of Santa Fe: http://www.renatocesarini.com.ar/default.asp
Hope you have found it interesting as well as i have.

I've just been on the www.renatocesarini.com.ar website but unfortunately the english translation is not working.
The TJFA is only for youths but you get a lot of scouts from the Academies at the games looking for prospects for the big clubs. One of the lads in the picture, Marcus, second from the left, back row, actually plays for Sunderland U11's. He's only able to play for Ferryhill when Sunderland do not have a game. He's an excellent player and helped us beat Greatham on Sunday with a superb long range shot which flew into the back of the net.
