SAFC MAKE 6TH SIGNING OF THE NEW SEASON

SUNDERLAND SIGN LEEDS YOUNGSTER MARTIN WOODS
Mick McCarthy secured his sixth summer transfer today when he clinched the signing of Leeds youngster Martin Woods from Leeds United.
The 19-year-old midfielder signed a one-year contract at the Stadium of Light and joins the club on a free transfer from Elland Road.
“I’m delighted to move here,” said Woods. “Sunderland is a massive club and the set-up here is fantastic. Although I spent three-and-a-half good years with Leeds after joining their Academy, it’s an exciting time for me to be coming here.
“My aims right now are just to force my way into first team and hopefully I’ll be able to do that in the Premiership next season.”
Woods, a left midfielder, earned himself a place on United's pre-season trip to Dublin last summer after some good displays for the juniors and reserves. He played one game for United last season, ironically in their 3-2 win at the Stadium of Light on Boxing Day.
