Don't Cry For Me Argentina

Go easy on Walter guys as he may top himself .....

Germany defeated Argentina 4-2 on penalties to book their place in the semi-finals after a 1-1 draw in Berlin.
Misses from Roberto Ayala and Esteban Cambiasso ensured the hosts a place in the final four.
Miroslav Klose's header had earlier cancelled out Ayala's opener for Argentina as the match went to extra-time and ultimately penalties.

A true Scot

Anyone visiting Coxa Coop tomorrow before the match will see the staff dressed in England tops except for one ...... Mrs Gilligan is working overtime tomorrow but is sticking by her principles and not wearing an England top as requested by the Coop because she has told them she is from Scotland.
I love a girl who sticks by her principles and won't change. So there you have it guys that's why no England flags out of any windows at Gilligan Palace.

Jim McNab 1940 -2006

It is with great sadness that we learned today of the passing of a Sunderland great.

Jimmy McNab that tough tackling no nonsense left half of the 1964 promotion winning side. Uncompromising McNab played over 320 first team games for Sunderland and that was despite having broken his leg twice.

Some of the older branch members had the privilge to meet Jim, when he came along to the Red Lion with Bobby Kerr to a branch quiz night. A true gent he was rewarded with a testimonial in 1999, having played in an era when money was short and chairman were more interested in lining their own pockets.

In his latter years Jim worked for Bobby Kerr at his pub in Copt Hill in Sunderland. He continued to live in Sunderland after his retirement from the game.

I'm sure you will all join with me in extending our deepest condolences to his family.

and there's more ........

BLACK CATS OPENING GAME SWITCHED

Sunderland’s first home game of the Coca-Cola Championship season has been put back 24 hours.

The Black Cats were due to play Birmingham at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday 8th August.

However, following the re-arrangement of the opening game at Coventry – which has been moved to Sunday 6th August (1.30pm kick-off) for live Sky TV coverage – the first home game has also been moved.

It will now be played on Wednesday 9th August at the Stadium of Light, 7.45pm kick-off.

Four of Sunderland’s 2006-07 games have now been changed. They are:

Coventry (A) – now Sunday 6th August, 1.30pm
Birmingham (H) – now Wednesday 9th August, 7.45pm
West Brom (H) – now Monday 28th August, 3pm
Leeds (A) – now Wednesday 13th September, 7.45pm

Is this any better - Billy

Billy,
First you complained about the rear view as being too large so I thought I would show the front end view (un-censored) and it also answers the question in the original posting was it the black pearl or Gary Bennett? Well unless Gary has a ..............

A better picture of a Sunderland lass!

In addition to Billy's picture versus the disgraceful Mag picture sent in by Walter ...
Perhaps it might be the Black Pearl or could even be Gary Bennett wearing the famous red and white shirt. What do you think guys?

Following on from Walter's "Mags in Buenos Aires" posting below I thought I'd better show him what Mackem lasses are like, compared with the Mag slapper in his posting.

Argentina, World Champions?

On that performance no.

Three pivotal moments in the game.

Borghetti's own goal.
The red card the Heinze never got.
The goal of the tournament so far from Rodriquez.

I now see why so many Argentinians hate the languid style of Riquelme. His free role makes it hard work for his other midfield players who need to work a lot harder to fill the gaps he leaves.

On tonights performance the Argentine can count themselves fortunate to have beaten a hard working and very skillfull Mexican side who given a little more luck could have pulled off a surprise.

With the form the Germans are starting to hit and the home advantage the quarter final next Friday should be quite some match.

Now bring it on England.

Mags in Buenos Aires?!?! joke!!

Follow the link and have a look at the sixth pic...(i thought the only Mag in Argentina was Leo, my friend)

It's started all over again!

Email from SAFC with changes due to live coverage by SkyTV means that Coventry is changed to the Sunday and WBA Home changed to the August Bank Holiday Monday. Just when you thought the premiership was fucked up due to Sky ........

Sunderland’s opening game of the Coca Cola Championship against Coventry City has been selected for live transmission by Sky TV.

The game which was originally due to take place on Saturday 5th August has now been switched to Sunday 6th August, 1:30pm kick off.

The Black Cats first home game of the new season sees them play host to Birmingham City on Tuesday 8th August, 7:45pm at the Stadium of Light.

Fritzie has been in touch again and sent me this photo. That's him on the left apparently. Want's to know if you'll be going back soon, his mate is also asking after Miller. Reckons you are a couple of 'fun boys' and the stains have washed out of the lederhosen ok.

Argentina / Holland

Two good squads. Talented players. Weakened teams tonight. Cancelled each other out.

Holland defensively sound and employed the sweeper system well, never really troubled by Argentina in my view. Messi and Tevez have some way to go to fill the boots of Crespo and Saviola.

Difficult to tell from the performance of both teams just how good they could be. Pundits are still drooling over the previous Argentine performances but I would still maintain that both sides ( Serbia and I Coast) are poor compared to the better organised sides and we have seen tonight that Argentina and Holland with weakend teams struggle to beat each other.

Frustrating

My first World Cup post and England continue to frustrate me to hell.

Joe Cole turns in a superb first half, scores a cracking goal to give us the lead then disappears in the second half. Frustrating!

Defensively we did well in the first half and never really looked threatened. What happened in the second half? Frustrating.

Owen Hargreaves broke the play up really well, but when sitting behind a midfield four and in front of a defensive four in the second half went missing. Frustrating.

Rarely did we get wide enough to get any decent deliveries into Crouch. Frustrating.

Still we win the group, we avoid the Germans ( though why people should worry about them is beyond me) and meet the more unpredictable Ecuadorians.

Gilligan returns soon and we'll get the low down.

FERRYHILL U12'S - SPONSORED BY HYDRALECTIC
COLDITZ - OUR CAMP

Just back from the Czech Republic - totally knackered after a 30 hour bus and ferry journey! Couple of pics posted above, will add more later. Had a great time and the lads were unbeaten but the camp where we stayed was 'rough digs' to say the least!

Branch AGM

Dear Members,

Life is so hectic at this time away on business last week in Holland and Belgium, this week in Turkey back Thursday then off to Germany for WC.

So for me impossible to fit in the AGM before I go away.

Talking to some of you and with the main topic for discussion at the AGM being numbers going next season it has been suggested to wait until I get back and hopefully more will be known about the takeover that may change some of your views on going to all the matches.

So I will be back June 22nd and after I have wrote about our exploits in Germany I will arrange our AGM so that the majority of you can attend and have your say in what happens next season.
